California

We are in California for the week for Christmas! After a wild flight - 2 airplane emergencies and a delay due to an airport staff mix up we finally arrived in SFO early Tuesday morning. We have been catching up with the cousins around the breakfast table and planning our Napa and Heavenly adventures later on in the week. We are going to head to the Academy of Science Museum today. I hope we catch a planetarium show!

Hoy es nuestra ultima dia en el ciudad de Buenos Aires! Let´s first recap our plane ride home... After posting our last blog we sat outside and played cards while listening to some Argentine reggae. Our cab was to come around 7 for our 930 flight. The cab arrived a bit early, but no worries we figured there might be a crowd of people leaving the Natural Wonder. to our surprise we were two of 7 people in the entire airport. We proceeded to the check in line (of 3 people) and looked up in disbelief to the departure screen. The flight was delayed until 12:30am! We had to confirm that this was actully happening, so we asked about the reason for the delay as we checked in. The ticketing agent said there was a ¨Slight Strike¨ going on in the Bs.As. Aeroparque! WHAT THE!! He said not to worry as the strike should be over around 1030pm and then the plane would take off and come to Igauzu. Weekend

Yesterday was our first full day to spend exploring the city of El Paso. We went downtown to the convention center where they were having a Cowboy Boot Liquidation Sale! I tried on many pairs of boots, but none were orange. They were not that comfy to wear either. We walked around the Railroad and Transportation Museum and then headed to a famous hotel. In the hotel there was a spectacular Tiffany style dome and underneath they put a circle bar. It is supposed to be one the top ten places to grab a drink. After admiring the architecture, we headed down to the Gran Mercado. The streets were filled with people and cheap items to buy. It was like a big flea market. We walked to the edge of Texas and saw the border patrol escort people in to Mexico. We might venture across one of these days, but for now I just took a picture of the bridge. Boat Trip on the Amalfi Coast

Thursday, June 22 The adventure I planned was a boat ride along the Amalfi coast with stops in Almafi, Positano and swimming time! When we were first talking about this trip with friends and family the number one recommendation was to do a boat day to see the area by water. Being a geographer and growing up on boats this was an easy YES!  Positano: We met the tour boat company around 830 am at the Sorrento Port. It was a very active morning with all kinds of boats loading up. We heard that 10 years ago there was only about 400 tour boats and now there are a few thousand! We headed around punta campanella, and along the coast to Amalfi, stopping to view some private islands, Li Galli Islands, one which looks like a mermaid from the air and is the source of the Odyssey myth:  The Sirens, (mermaids) would seduce the sailors with their voices and make them crash (aka strong winds).
