UK - London Day 2

Sunday morning was a bit rough waking up after a time change, drinks and jet lag...but we made it out of the house by 915 to get on the train into London. The people watching in other countries is fantastic and here it did not disappoint!

On our walk to the train station, we passed an old Abbey where King Henry VIII had monks killed when he pulled away from the catholic church since he wanted a divorce. |The abbey was then left to rot and the remains are still there. It was a cool tale to hear along our walk.

We rode like cattle in the train to London, it is the most popular train route and once arrived headed out of Paddington station to find our hostel in St Paul's area. |We dropped off our stuff and headed out to walk down the embankment towards the London Eye. |We booked tickets ahead of time to avoid lines so we took in some sights along the way. |we saw somerset house, London eye and big Ben from afar, walked up to Parliament and around to Westminster (we will go in tomorrow as it is closed on Sundays) and then up to |Whitehall and 10 downing street and then up to Trafalgar square and then headed across the Gold Jubilee Bridge to the London Eye experience.

The London Eye was a great way to see the city and learn the building layout. It was a clear sunny day (we are really lucking out with the weather) |it was a 30 minute tour and gave plenty of picture opportunities.

From the London Eye we decided to get on the Original Sightseeing tour bus and take a 2 hour tour around the hot spots. It was a great way to cover ground since we have a short amount of time. |we got off the tour |Leister Square and then walked down to st James park and then over to Buckingham Palace! That place was so grand, but not as pretty as |Windsor castle. We saw many hot spots on the tour and will aim to hit the rest tomorrow.

From there we split off from |Michael and Dustin and headed to the Tower of London to meet G.C. for dinner; he is a work colleague on an assignment in Cambridge for 2 years! How perfect that we could visit! We walked across the Tower Bridge and ate at a local pub. I had to get fish and chips, but I am now regretting it as it was so fried and greasy...guess that is part of the experience. We tried a few beers and caught up with G.C. it was neat to hear his perspective since he has been here for 4 months.

We are now back in our hostel and turning in for the night. We have a big agenda tomorrow and need a good nights rest!

Cheers!
