Sorrento Pompeii and Star alliance drama

On Wednesday the siblings all went into Sorrento one last time to shop! 


Thursday we went to Pompeii - absolutely amazing history and archeological feats. And we packed.


Friday we woke up to more unexpected travel news…our flight from Munich to Denver was cancelled due to a mechanic issue…and then we embarked on the fun of star alliance gray space. 


I share the highlights…

We weren't rebooked automatically by Lufthansa, witu the MuC-DeN cancelled flight, but didn't find out until we got to Naples check in (even though our app had a new flight for us) because the Munich to Denver flight is United. That wouldn't show up on Lufthansas site. W hen we checked in the agent said we'd have to figure it out in munch, which Also meant we had to pick up our 5 checked bags in Munich. We essentially had to start the booking process over. 


We got to bag check, and my bag, never left Naples. Then we went to Lufthansa customer service, and they had limited booking options due to what they can see, 😕 as I could see more on united app. By now, lots of flights are sold out due to Italy impact.


The best thing to do was put us on a 3pm flight to Frankfort the next day, with a connecting flight to San Francisco, and get us into San Diego around 1 am (Sunday!) It is what it is at this point. No LAX options… and no seat options because Frankfurt forward is all United. Oy. 


They provided us a hotel (with free dinner and breakfast) so we ate and slept well with our 4 bags. 


We arrived at the airport wit the idea that maybe we can get an earlier flight to Frankfort as it's a much bigger airport with United customer service. None here. We were able to rebook on a 12 flight to Frankfort.


We're currently at the Munich kids play area waiting to board our flight to Frankfort 🤞🤞🤞😆😆😆🥵🥵🥵🤪🤪🤪🥺😬🤬😱

Great Barrier Reef

Today we spent the whole day on the Reef and it was soo amazing! We snorkled in two places and saw tons of fish. Angel and Butterfly were the two most common types! We did not see any sharks or sea snakes so I was happy. On the way out to the reef it took 90 minutes and and bunch of us sat on the bow of the boat and got toally soaked. I think the skipper was trying to throw us over! We got a really cool picture of us underwater also! I even got to wear this awesome wet suit! haha not really but it was fun and kept me warm. It was a bit cloudy but still very very fun!

Well, hello long lost travel buddy! Dusting off the old blog as we gear up for a month long adventure in Italy! The idea to travel was a part of my maternal grandparents plan once they passed, but none of us knew about it, which makes this plan extra special! They told my mom and her 3 siblings that a trip to Italy is what they wanted for us with any leftover money. They passed away 2 years ago, so this idea has been in the making for several years!  This trip carries extra meaning for us as my grandparents immigrated to the US in the late 60s. My grandma had to come over only with my mom, and secure work to prove her stability before my grandfather and uncles could follow. As we've gotten older my mom has shared more on her experience, and I have such respect and admiration for how strong my grandmother was - both in mind and physical grit to prove herself as an immigrant to be able to apply for a greencard. Day 1 - Famiglia!

Waking up in Amalfi is quite glorious!  23 of us arrived yesterday on 7 flights with only minor travel delays! Our Villa hosts made us a delicious dinner and to no surprise with this family it turned into karaoke 🎤 as everyone tried to get a post travel day second wind. It's important to stay up as late as possible to adjust to the time change, they say 😉 This morning we woke up to cappuccinos and breakfast from our hosts to start day one of lounging. Today, was a very comfortable 80 degree day of pool, ping pong, catching up, and enjoying the views.  Zio Tony is making his famous pasta and meat sauce for dinner this evening 😋🍽️!  I think this view is what "sold" my mom on this house: Pool and hot tub: Our relaxing view of Amalfi: Dinner!
