Vatican and Travel change!

Quick travel update: We have changed our departure from Saturday July 15th to Friday July 14th due to a nationwide Italian air traffic control strike planned for
Saturday. United was the one that initially put this on my radar when they reached out offering us compensation to change our flight. Summer strikes are pretty yet normal out here and it seems like this one is not going to get rescheduled. Rome trash was on strike when we were there!

As we were planning our family trip we decided that we would just do two activities - 1each morning - when we were there to get to see some of Rome, but not burn the kids out too much. It was Also 98° and humid 🥵! And use the afternoon to relax and find unplanned fun!

On Monday we booked a kid friendly 830am Vatican Tour! Think engaging tour guide with kid focused stories, history, and scavenger hunts! I think all the adults were also pleased with this your option! Ha! Such a beautiful place! I think my favorite part was the hall of maps! We left Cecilia with my parents as the tour was not recommended for under 6 (You can tell by the picture that 5 was cutting it close!)

After exploring Vatican, we met my parents and Cecilia for lunch at a pizza place called Amalfi! We missed the coast and cool air so much we had to find a memory for lunch, as we dripped sweat into the restaurant!

Then we enjoyed a true Roman Siesta! James and I took the kids back to nap and did they! Like 3 hours! Following a good recharge, we embarked on a most wonderful unplanned evening! For me, these are the most memorable and enjoyable parts of traveling: The unexpected local experience!

We decided to walk across the street to the neighborhood park and stumbled upon a playground a jazz festival a political speech event and an outdoor movie being set up! All of this was connected by food trucks and pop up drink stands! What! We couldn't have dreamed a better evening!
The kids played for awhile, we ate hamburgers and hot dogs (haven't had that in a month) and we walked around to watch folks playing at the permanent foose ball and ping pong tables. We ended our evening watching some local Jazz 🎶
