Bailamos Con Los Gauchos

The weather here is fantastic! Traveling around in 80 degress with light winds has provided both of us with burnt skin! We went on a bike tour the other morning and forgot to apply the spf 50 and now we are paying for it! It is a fun memory we will associate with this vacation.

Today we went on a fun excursion to the Estancio. The name of the ranch was Santa Susana. We picked up the bus at 9am and arrived at 1130...it was a long and hot bus ride but the silver lining was that we saw the northern country side. We arrived to the smell of all you an eat empanadas and vino tinto! There were a few activities to choose from and we immediately followed the gauchos to the horseback riding. That may not have been the wisest of decisions following a 15 mile bike ride yesterday, regardless, the caballos provided us with some laughs. We even made new friends as our horses did not listen to us. (we were the moden day lucy and ethel...and being the only americans it was fitting).

Lunch featured local salads and multiple kinds of meat accompanied with all you can drink wine. Notice a theme here? During lunch we watched a tango dance, accordion performance and gauchos doing malambos (swinging wood balls around and hitting the ground). Amanda was lucky enough to be called up to dance with one of the gauchos and she bounced around the stage while I snapped a few pics. We made some new friends during this excursion and the two men from Japon we sat next to at lunch called Amanda ¨A good little Drinker¨ (sorry Ray!) The two ladies from Peru convinced us that their country should be next on our list to visit as they talked up their beaches in Mancora.

After lunch we went back outside to watch the gauchos display their machismo stature via hearding horses and galloping games. One of their games was to put a rod thru a 1 inch circular ring as they were galloping full speed under a gate. They gave their rings away in exchange for besos (kisses) to certain senoritas they called upon and we were both lucky winners! Aye Aye!

We are now researching activities for the next few days and hope to get up to Iguazu and/or Colonia. I think it will best be discussed over some steak and wine!!!

Random updates:
*we have yet to receive any coins in this country
*we have purchsed multiple bottles of water
*The people here dont drive in lanes and we almost crashed 10 times coming home from dinner last night, but that could be due to the driver looking all of 12 years and not knowing how to drive stick.
*Casa Rosada is lit up pink at night, which is so pretty!
* We have agreed that pictures are worth a thousand words and also a thousand drinks!
*This town does not eat dinner til 11pm and the bars dont get crowded til 2...we are trying are hardest to fit in.
*Dog walking is one of the better professions in this town

We love you and miss you all!

ciao ciao,
Marcella and Amanda

So true about the dinner! Logan and I went to dinner at 8:30 the other night and we were there with the early-birds (we were the only ones there except for one elderly couple). I'm glad you guys are enjoying Buenos Aires!
