Los Arboles Estan Llorando

Hoy es nuestra ultima dia en el ciudad de Buenos Aires!

Let´s first recap our plane ride home...

After posting our last blog we sat outside and played cards while listening to some Argentine reggae. Our cab was to come around 7 for our 930 flight. The cab arrived a bit early, but no worries we figured there might be a crowd of people leaving the Natural Wonder. to our surprise we were two of 7 people in the entire airport. We proceeded to the check in line (of 3 people) and looked up in disbelief to the departure screen. The flight was delayed until 12:30am! We had to confirm that this was actully happening, so we asked about the reason for the delay as we checked in. The ticketing agent said there was a ¨Slight Strike¨ going on in the Bs.As. Aeroparque! WHAT THE!! He said not to worry as the strike should be over around 1030pm and then the plane would take off and come to Igauzu. We had been warned that the transportation to and from the falls is not usually on time, but we didnt think we would encounter a slight strike! We have an international flight home in 24 hours and if we missed that it would not be a ¨slight¨problem.

Here is a link to a news article about the strikes that have occured. I couldnt find one about last night´s.

So what do to to kill time? Eat pizza, french fries, pastries, icecream and drink cafe con leche. We had A LOT of time. We even played more cards. The mood changed as we found out that the flight was going to be arriving at 1030 so we packed up and headed toward the gate. At the gate we witnessed another culture shock when multiple breast feeding mamas whipped out their boob to calm their child. The time wasted in the airport was worth it becuase it was the nicest commuter jet we have ever seen. It even had engligh episodes of Glee for us to watch on our personal tv´s!

We made it home safely and passed out for a few hours...

This morning we woke up at 830 so that we could shower, pack and get a head start on the markets. We both woke to the alarm but were feeling extra groggy. Since we had a long day and late night flying home we thought it was just general exhaustion. After we both got out of the showers and started to get ready, Amanda put on her watch and started giggling. Then she asked me what time I had on my watch so I looked down and realized it was 7:36!!!!! Which means we really woke up at 6:30am!!! Apparently, Amanda had a time change confusion and I didnt have the sense to check my own watch. I just put full trust in her. We doubled over in laughter and woke up our bed mates. We have been a little off this week in words and actions and this one takes the cake!

It actually worked out well since we now had PLENTY of time to walk back down to the Recoleta Market and do some souvenir shopping. We were also hoping to catch up with Phil and Christine for lunch. The extra two hours helped us out since we got lost on our way. We can´t seem to make it to Recoleta by foot on our first try. We finally arrived, bought a few things and had one more leisurely lunch while people watching. We are now at the Hostel waiting for our taxi to come take us to EZE. In many ways it feels like time has flown but on the otherhand we keep saying that we feel like this trip has been more than a week because we did so much.

I titled this post the Trees are Crying to make sure I talk about the BA trees that line the streets. I have been meaning to mention this in my earlier posts but have forgotten. Our first day here we kept feeling droplets on our heads and shoulders of a watery substance but couldnt pin point what was going. We deduced that it was something pooping on us or that a small unseen rain cloud kept following us. We finally asked and found out that indeed it is a parasite in the tree that esentially pees on those down below. The tree is a tipuana tipu, native to South America. The phenomenon is know as “llanto de las tipas” (the tears of the tipas). It doesnt seem to bother anyone else but us. We asked others and they said not to worry as the trees are just crying. So sad. I think they are crying today because they are sad we are leaving. We provided everyone with joy and laughs on our journey.

There is a ¨slight¨chance we might stay tonight if the tree´s cry hard enough becuase Britney Spears is playing a concert downtown tomorrow and we all know Amanda would be willing to extend her trip for that experience!

Please keep us in your prayers so that we have a good sleepy flight home!

Ciao Ciao!

Marcella and Amanda
