Back to the Villa!

This morning we slept in with no timeline other than getting on the bus home at 2pm. 


We packed up and left the hotel around 10am to walk through the newer part of Scalea and get lunch before the bus ride back to the villa. 


My parents, and our first agenda item was to finally find postage! They only sell stamps at the post office. We found the closet one (about a 15 minute walk) and upon entering it felt like the DMV. each customer took a ticket with a number and we sat on benches until we were called. No self service kiosks here. While waiting and confirming we understood the process, we asked a lady who knew Patricia and Enzo! Yay! 




Then we walked into town and found a quick spot for toast (ham and cheese sandwich) and granita's (icees). Before leaving the kids saw paw patrol gelato, so order me 2 please! 






We are now on the bus home, full of nappers and a Cecilia singer. She loves bus rides! I am going to have to check out the Redlands bus system when we get home! 




This evening we have dinner being prepared by our hosts. TBD on tomorrow adventure…will we choose a relaxing villa day, trip to Vesuvio/Pompeii (cousin planning), or a trip into Sorrento with my mom to get train tickets to Rome? Or something that has yet to be brought up!

Great Barrier Reef

Today we spent the whole day on the Reef and it was soo amazing! We snorkled in two places and saw tons of fish. Angel and Butterfly were the two most common types! We did not see any sharks or sea snakes so I was happy. On the way out to the reef it took 90 minutes and and bunch of us sat on the bow of the boat and got toally soaked. I think the skipper was trying to throw us over! We got a really cool picture of us underwater also! I even got to wear this awesome wet suit! haha not really but it was fun and kept me warm. It was a bit cloudy but still very very fun!

Day 1 - Famiglia!

Waking up in Amalfi is quite glorious!  23 of us arrived yesterday on 7 flights with only minor travel delays! Our Villa hosts made us a delicious dinner and to no surprise with this family it turned into karaoke 🎤 as everyone tried to get a post travel day second wind. It's important to stay up as late as possible to adjust to the time change, they say 😉 This morning we woke up to cappuccinos and breakfast from our hosts to start day one of lounging. Today, was a very comfortable 80 degree day of pool, ping pong, catching up, and enjoying the views.  Zio Tony is making his famous pasta and meat sauce for dinner this evening 😋🍽️!  I think this view is what "sold" my mom on this house: Pool and hot tub: Our relaxing view of Amalfi: Dinner! Well, hello long lost travel buddy! Dusting off the old blog as we gear up for a month long adventure in Italy! The idea to travel was a part of my maternal grandparents plan once they passed, but none of us knew about it, which makes this plan extra special! They told my mom and her 3 siblings that a trip to Italy is what they wanted for us with any leftover money. They passed away 2 years ago, so this idea has been in the making for several years!  This trip carries extra meaning for us as my grandparents immigrated to the US in the late 60s. My grandma had to come over only with my mom, and secure work to prove her stability before my grandfather and uncles could follow. As we've gotten older my mom has shared more on her experience, and I have such respect and admiration for how strong my grandmother was - both in mind and physical grit to prove herself as an immigrant to be able to apply for a greencard.
