Travels to Ravello... always an adventure!

(Amalfi at night)

Today James and I ventured off to Ravello for a few days together! (Thanks Nonna and PopPop!) Ravello is part of the Amalfi coast but up in the mountain and not on the beach.

It was quite the adventure this morning! Before leaving for Italy I booked us a driver from our Villa to Ravello, but now that we've been here and know the bus system, I decided to cancel the car ( it was 200 euro!) and we opted to take the SITA bus for $5 euro! We started walking down our driveway and coincidentally our host was leaving his house, next door, and drove us to Colli di Fontanelle! Then we grabbed a coffee, bus tickets, and waited the 20 minutes for our 1130 bus…that bus came by, and even though we were frantically waving the bus driver just shook his head and kept on driving past the bus stop. We went in the coffee shop to try to understand why, and it turns out when there's too many people on the bus they won't stop. The route were on is between Sorrento and Positano, so it's flooded with tourists! There was another bus schedule to come at noon, so that was our plan B! Hoping it had a bit more space!

As we were waiting, Magda and Tony came out of the grocery store, and offered to drive us in their rental car but I told them we'd use them as plan C.

It was about 12:15 when I was about to throw in the towel on using the bus when it rounded the corner, I jumped into the road waving and prayer hands and he held up 2 fingers!!! Yippee!!! He squeezed us in! Staying positive worked! The bus was so packed that James had to sit on the front step!

We enjoyed the scenic hour to Amalfi via bus feeling so grateful! Upone arriving in Amalfi, we went to the bus transfer stop for Ravello and saw that due to road construction the route which normally takes 30 minutes now takes 1 hour 40 minutes, sooo we decided to hoof it up the hill. This walk is marked and it's in the "top things to do" but I'm sure they meant walking 👇 down from Ravello not up from Amalfi. It took us about 90 minutes and we were completely soaked from walking up 1100 feet in midday heat carrying backpacks. it was probably 1100 steps! Gah! James had the main backpack like 30-40lbs). It was rough but we did it!!!

staircase after staircase

we are so drenched!!

We arrived at our hotel, cleaned up and (here's the kicker) had dinner reservations back down in Amalfi! Hahaha 🤣 Good thing there's drivers/Taxi service. It's about a 20 minute ride via car.

We ate at La Caravella, a delicious seafood Michelin star restaurant. The star was earned in the 60s by the first woman in Italy and it was the first star in southern Italy! Woo! It's a museum restaurant hosting a collection of ceramics.

We needed a long quiet relaxing dinner after our insane uphill hike!
