Lemon Farm and Bagni Regina Giovanna swimming hole

Updated:
Today we went to a lemon farm and then to a swimming hole on the edge of the Gulf of Napoli. Posting pics and will write more later!

Wednesday, June 21

We had scooters until 9:00 a.m. Wednesday morning so we all decided to take one last scooter journey down the hill to return them in town, eat breakfast, and take the bus to our lemon farm adventure for the morning!

Scootering during rush hour is no joke as we became part of the assertive and very fast-paced auto experience. We fueled up (only 3 euro!) and had a few close calls with folks getting to work as we made our way to the rental place near the center of town (piazza Tasso). Phew!

After returning the scooters we stopped for an absolutely delicious vanilla ice latte before catching the bus to La Masseria, a 4th generation sorrento working farm (and garden). This was an in depth tour in farming, citrus, and gardening. James loves the garden tips and approaches, and Christian and Cecilia loved holding the kittens and petting the goats, pigs and cows!

Said latte:

This experience was one that my Aunt LaVon had one picked, and everybody ended up signing up! As we are now here in Italy, it is cool to reflect back on all the email threads we had going on throughout the last year and planning who would be doing each activity. I appreciate our family that no one is ever pressured to all be together but there are a few of these activities where it met everybody's needs we took over the venue!

Following the farm tour, James, Christian, two of my cousins and I separated from the group and sought out a natural swimming hole at the point of Sorrento peninsula called Bagni Regina Giovanna. This area is said to have been a villa in 1st century BC where Regina Giovanna would come and take her lovers, because it is a secluded cove, and if she was not completely pleased she would behead them!

This was a bit of a hike to reach,  but Christian did amazing and it was worth all the sweat and climbing on pumice rock once we got there! My cousin jumped off the cliff, and we all enjoyed time relaxing in the Gulf of Napoli.

We returned home on the bus, cooled off in the pool, and got take out from a local restaurant (pizzeria Il panorama) in colli di  fontanelle. We played another new game - dixit. (Sensing a theme here?!)

I have to say that I am incredibly impressed with how easy going and adventurous Christian is! We are throwing new things at him every day and taking him on adventures and he is always up for it and willing to tough it out for the adventure waiting for us in the other side! We thought the swimming hole might be a bit above his age, but he totally owned it! This makes my travel desire even stronger with 2 resilient kids!!

I also have to give a shout out to my cousin Carmela who is a planning wizard! She's figured out bus systems, timing, and how to make the most of each day! I'll be traveling more with her in the future!

Up next: My day: Almafi coast boat tour with stops in Positano and Almafi!
