Pisa and Tornio

It was an hour train ride west from Florence to Pisa. We decided last minute to have lunch and see the leaning tower before heading to Torino. It has worked out nice that we dont have a set plan becuase that way we can take last minute detours to other cities.

We arrived in Pisa around 12 and found that it was a small city and very quirky. The people were a little frigid and not helpful. The train station lady was quite rude and did not want to help us get a reservation for our next train! Uf!

After walking and walking we finally decided to sit down for lunch at a place with pink tablecloths. We were the only ones there, but we were so hungry it didnt matter. I got pizza in Pisa, ha ha.

Then we walked around trying to find the leaning tower. It is not very tall, but alas we found it. We took some pictures and then had to head back on the train. It was a quick trip but so worth it to see the famous building. The Duomo that it is part of is absolutely huge! Amazing how they built such intricate masterpieces so long ago!

It was a 4 hour train ride to Tornio. I slept the whole way and it was marvelous. Amanda's mother friend lives in Torino so they kindly hosted us for tonight. We arrived and they took us around to most of the hot spots on our drive home. There is a Holy Shrine here and the largest piazza in all of Italy. I think that Torino is the third largest city.

We arrived at their beautiful home in the hills of Torino (it is about an hours drive north to the Alps) and once again started in on a lavish Italian dinner. We had a ham/riccotta dish, a vegetable/tuna salad, veal and peppers. That was just the antipasta!!!! Then we had Ravioli for dinner, followed by cheese and honey and finally Tiramisu for dessert. In between it all we talked with their family and told some funny jokes.

We are talking and relaxing with Louisa and her husband and his son Julio tonight. He wants to take us out to a local pub with his friends...we will see if we can make it as we are so tired

We will spend the day here tomorrow and then head to the Nice/Monaco/Cannes for the night.

It is another 5 hour train ride along the Mediterranean so let's hope I can stay awake for the beautiful ride!
